Future is Bright for Charlotte, NC Area
The Charlotte Observer recently reported on a U.S. Census Bureau study showing that the Charlotte areas population surged in the past decade, up 32% from the 2000 census to reach 919,600 in 2010 for Mecklenburg County.
According to the Observer article, the growth was fueled by transplants looking for better jobs, cheaper homes and warmer weather. This kind of trending is good for business, showing companies that people are moving here and its a desirable place to live. A UNC professor in the article is quoted as saying: Urban areas such as Charlotte, which attracted legions of finance workers in recent years, have led that growth, while suburbs with the best amenities lakes, the coast or the mountains have also seen big spikes.
Although there was a slowdown in the growth trend towards the end of the decade, that is also reversing itself as the local economy begins to recover and news such as Charlottes Democratic National Convention win highlights the citys attributes. Attributes include a strengthening business climate, a strong arts community, rich historical value, well planned communities, unique recreational opportunities including the U.S. National Whitewater Center, and the convenience of the light-rail line.
