5 reasons to buy and live in Fort Rouge Winnipeg

.

Fort Rouge is a beautiful area of Winnipeg and anyone that lives there will likely tell you that they love it.  There are many luxurious homes that are available to buy and even some amazing luxury condominiums.  The houses and the condos are filled with character and style that you can’t find in brand new homes.  You’ll find characteristics like stained glass windows, original hardwood floors, beautiful wood trim, glass door knobs, and more.  These things might seem small but they can truly make a home unique.

There are many other reasons why people love to buy and live in Fort Rouge as well.  Which of these appeal most to you?

One of the things that make Fort Rouge appealing to so many people is the excess of trees and parks.  The streets are all lined with tall tree and in the summer the houses get lots of shade.  That means that older houses stay cool in the summer! There are also many parks in the Fort Rouge area.  Some are great for children with play structures and wading pools, while others are perfect for a leisurely walk.  Family parks are a great place to meet other parents in the summer and walking parks are a great place to relax and enjoy a piece of nature in the city limits.

Fort Rouge has many opportunities for shopping.  If you love the mall, then the Grant Park mall is a perfect place to spend the afternoon.  They have Empire Theatre for movies, many smaller retail stores, a Liquor Mart, a Safeway, and some great privately owned stores with items that you won’t find anywhere else.  The largest store in the Grant Park Mall has been Zellers, but many will be excited to learn that this Zellers has been bought out by Target and you can expect to see renovations for the new Target store start within the next two years.  There are many other shopping opportunities in Fort Rouge, as well, including Corydon Ave.

Corydon Village is the place you want to be in the summer.  It is one of the trendiest locations for shopping and dining.  You’ll find unique stores and fabulous restaurants and don’t forget about the outdoor dining opportunities.  Establishments like Saffron’s, Niko’s, and the Red Cactus give you plenty of choices of places to dine el fresco!  And of course, you can’t talk about Corydon Village without mentioning the gelati shops.  There are several great places to get gelati but Nucci’s Gelati and G. G. Gelati are likely the two most popular places.  Both have inside and patio seating or you can get a dish of gelati to go and just enjoy the street sites.  In the summer there is outdoor entertainment on the streets almost every weekend, too, so you can truly make a day of shopping, eating, and entertainment on the Corydon Village strip.

One of the best things about summer in Winnipeg is the chance to get outdoors and enjoy some sunshine and in Fort Rouge the Wellington Crescent Path is a great place to do it.  On Sundays the road is limited to vehicles so it is a perfect day for cycling or rollerblading along the path.  Joggers and walkers can enjoy the dirt path that stretches between the lanes as they enjoy the trees and the beautiful old house of old Wellington Crescent.

Fort Rouge is filled with wonderful restaurants to eat at.  If you’re looking for Italian fare Corydon Village is filled with authentic Italian restaurants like Civita and Colosseo Ristorante.  You’ll also find authentic Greek Restaurants like Niko’s and Kristina’s.  Throughout Fort Rouge you’ll find many other gems like Mona Lisa’s and the Settebello Cafe.
